About

Family Haikus are short observations about my life and the universe around it. Sometimes the haikus take a traditional form of 5/7/5 verse. Other times there are more words.  But overall,  I’m doing this for the sheer fun of writing and creating. And, to take that a step further, my desire is to share joy, beauty and possibilities in a world too often devoid of these things.

By day I work as a Human Resources manager for a large company. I love this job (mostly). Really I do — it has enabled me to understand my own passions and gives me the chance to work with people intent on finding their own.  I don’t see myself doing anything else professionally.

The rest of my life is spent as a wife since 1993 and a mom since 2002. My two children (girl (AP) and boy (AB)) provide me loads of writing material. My stay-at-home gem of a husband does as well. All tolerate me and for that I am eternally grateful.   A small portion of my life is still a daughter and a sister, but the immediate family takes center stage most of the time.  I also fancy myself a gardener, but I give myself more credit than I deserve in this domain. And I’m passionate about my Aga (a type of stove)… I’ll explain it in a post someday (if you own one, you know…).

I love to write.  Mostly I’ve written poetry, which is odd to realize… But I think my passion lies in essays.  This blog allows me to explore the world with words and I’m exicted to see where I go.

Thanks for spending your time with me.

With love,  Maureen

  7. My kids are about the same age. Great idea for family haikus, I’ve enjoyed what I have read so far. Kids are endless sources of writing material, joy, laughter, and migraines. :)

  8. Maureen, I’m glad you were FP so I found you blog. I think your post that was featured was hilarious and I think many of us can relate with being obsessed with stats. I was FP the same day as you and I’ve been on cloud 9 ever since. It’s great you have a day job, but I wish the best as you pursue your writing dreams. You are talented and it will be fun to follow you and see where Family Haikus takes you. Best of luck to you!

  9. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed. I, too, watch my stats. My best day was 61 views and I’ve been blogging since Dec. 2010, so you are way ahead of me. Your stats will be off the charts today and will probably really skew your graph for a while. Enjoyed your blog.

  13. Even though you’ve already been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award, I think you deserve it twice. I don’t know if it’s against the rules, but I’ve linked you here:

I’m just seeing that you were nominated for another award as well, but I nominated you today for the Kreativ Blogger Award.
