About

Family Haikus are short observations about my life and the universe around it.  My haikus take a traditional form of 5/7/5 verse  and are intended to introduce the topic of the post. I’m doing this for the sheer fun of writing and creating something very different from what I do usually.  Ultimately, I hope to share joy, beauty and possibilities in a world too often devoid of these things. And to do it with some humor tossed in.

It’s been a year now, so I’m updating this page to give you more of an idea of what you are in for if you have braved reading this far:

– Posts about my husband are done in jest… he is my rock and my love.

– My son has a thing for his thing. I write about it at times.

– My daughter makes me so proud, my posts of her mostly make me cry.

– I have a thing about bathrooms. My collected works speak for themselves. (For more, and I’m not sure why you would want more, search on bathrooms on my homepage.)

By day I work as a Human Resources manager for a large company. The rest of my life is spent as a wife since 1993 and a mom since 2002. My two children (girl (AP) and boy (AB)) provide me loads of writing material. My until -June-was-a-stay-at-home gem of a husband does as well. And we got a dog Christmas 2010 – why I decided I needed something else in my life that I had to keep alive, I’m not sure, but I like her just the same. They all tolerate me and for that I am eternally grateful.   A small portion of my life is still a daughter and a sister, but the immediate family takes center stage most of the time.  I also fancy myself a gardener, but I give myself more credit than I deserve in this domain. And I’m passionate about my Aga (a type of stove)… see the linked post to learn all about it.

Below are haikus that represent my family, enjoy.

Lily: Rip snortin’ hound dog / Flies ass over tea kettle / After the wet ball
AB: Cute defined: my boy, / a dried chocolate goatee, / smiling ear to ear.
AP: Give her the freedom / To roam, fall, pick herself up / And watch strength blossom.
Frank: A sewage eating / rodent died in Frank’s colon / gack…help…must…not…breathe….
Me: Mother of the year / Each year lost, gone by Feb first / I’m used to it now…

Thanks for spending your time with us.

With love,  Maureen

  8. Maureen, I’m glad you were FP so I found you blog. I think your post that was featured was hilarious and I think many of us can relate with being obsessed with stats. I was FP the same day as you and I’ve been on cloud 9 ever since. It’s great you have a day job, but I wish the best as you pursue your writing dreams. You are talented and it will be fun to follow you and see where Family Haikus takes you. Best of luck to you!

  9. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed. I, too, watch my stats. My best day was 61 views and I’ve been blogging since Dec. 2010, so you are way ahead of me. Your stats will be off the charts today and will probably really skew your graph for a while. Enjoyed your blog.
